Email Autoresponders for Affiliate Marketing: AWeber, GetResponse and Kit

Posted on February 8, 2025October 9, 2026

Planning example and policy notes reviewed 8 October 2026. Provider pricing snapshots below were checked on 6 October 2026; follow the provider links for current offers and limits.

Choose an email autoresponder by starting with the newsletter you intend to send. Who asked for it, what will it contain, how many messages will it use, and which provider permits those offers? This guide takes you from that brief to a sending plan, a comparison of AWeber, GetResponse and Kit, and a welcome sequence you can build and test.

You do not need to choose every tool at once. Work through the five steps below, then follow the supporting guide for the decision you are ready to make.

  1. Start with the campaign and its permissions
  2. Plan your sending volume
  3. Compare the same workload
  4. Build and test one welcome sequence
  5. Measure the results separately

1. Start with the campaign and its permissions

Write down the audience, signup promise, email frequency and products you might recommend. Keep a record of how people asked to receive your emails. Request only the subscriber information you need, explain its use, and provide an easy way to unsubscribe. These are practical planning checks, not a guarantee of legal compliance or provider approval.

Check both the email provider’s content rules and the affiliate program’s rules for email promotion. A provider running its own affiliate program does not mean every customer can send every type of affiliate offer.

  • AWeber: its anti-spam policy requires people to have specifically requested your information and prohibits purchased or rented lists.
  • Kit: it expects your own business or original content beyond affiliate promotion, with clearly identified affiliate recommendations alongside it. Its affiliate-content guidance restricts affiliate-only messages and certain offers, including affiliate education links.
  • GetResponse: permission and content restrictions still apply. Its prohibited-practices terms also restrict using the service to promote GetResponse competitors. This matters if your newsletter recommends other email platforms.

If the fit is unclear, give the provider a representative email and the actual offers you intend to promote before importing subscribers or paying for a plan. For a broader provider-by-provider reference, use our email-platform policy and pricing guide.

2. Plan your sending volume: a worked example

Illustrative example, not a campaign result. Imagine a small gardening publication launching a container-gardening newsletter. It has 500 newly opted-in contacts at the start of a planning month. Each is scheduled to receive a four-email welcome sequence once and four newsletter broadcasts during that month.

Planning workload for a fixed 500-contact launch cohort
Email group Assumption Planned recipient-sends
Welcome sequence 500 contacts × 4 emails, once 2,000
Newsletter broadcasts 500 contacts × 4 broadcasts 2,000
Launch-month total All 500 contacts are scheduled to receive all 8 messages 4,000

This is workload arithmetic, not a forecast of delivered emails, inbox placement, clicks or sales. It excludes tests, resends and changes in the cohort. Unsubscribes and bounces may reduce what is sent; providers can count attempted sends differently. Check the plan’s own counting rules rather than treating 4,000 as a billing prediction.

The welcome sequence is not repeated for those same contacts every month. With no new subscribers and the same four broadcasts, the following month’s planned workload would be 2,000 recipient-sends, before other adjustments.

For this example, compare plans against the same requirements: capacity for 500 billable contacts and the launch-month workload, one four-message automation, the signup form you need, unsubscribe suppression, and reporting you can export. Record how the provider counts contacts, sends and extra usage. A low headline price does not settle those questions.

3. Compare options against that workload

The three options below are starting points for checking a specific plan. They are not a blanket recommendation that the example, your business or any affiliate offer will be accepted. For a wider feature comparison, see five email platforms compared.

AWeber: Compare Lite and Plus

As checked on 6 October 2026, AWeber Lite costs US$15 per month, billed monthly, for up to 500 subscribers and 5,000 monthly email sends. At the same subscriber tier, Plus costs US$30 per month, billed monthly, with 6,000 monthly sends. AWeber currently advertises a 14-day trial. Annual billing has different pricing; check the current AWeber pricing page before choosing a plan.

Lite includes one email list, three landing pages, three email automations and one custom segment. Plus offers unlimited lists, landing pages, automations and custom segments, within its subscriber and email-send limits. Choose a tier based on the workflows and reporting you need rather than assuming every plan includes the same features.

GetResponse: Match Automation Features to Your Plan

As checked on 6 October 2026, GetResponse Starter starts at US$19 per month, billed monthly, for 1,000 subscribers. Its pricing page lists Marketer from US$59 per month, billed monthly. Prices increase with list size, and local taxes may apply. Annual subscriptions have different rates; check GetResponse’s current pricing for your list size and billing period.

Starter includes a welcome email series, one custom automation workflow, landing pages and signup forms. Marketer includes unlimited workflows, advanced segmentation and sales funnels. Webinars are listed in the Creator tier. GetResponse advertises tools for affiliate marketers, but campaigns still need to comply with its current service and anti-spam rules.

Kit, Formerly ConvertKit: Check Features and Affiliate-Content Rules

Kit offers a free plan and paid Creator and Pro plans. Pricing varies by subscriber count and billing period, so check Kit’s current pricing for your list size. Its paid plans currently offer a 14-day trial without a credit card. Creator includes unlimited visual automations and email sequences; Pro adds features such as deliverability reporting, subscriber engagement scoring and email-content A/B testing.

Kit allows some clearly identified affiliate recommendations alongside a creator’s own content. Its policies restrict affiliate-only content and certain offers, including affiliate educational offers. It may close accounts that breach its acceptable-use rules. Review its affiliate-marketing guidance before deciding whether your business is a fit.

Link Presentation

Use clear link text so readers understand where a link leads, and identify affiliate recommendations appropriately. Check both the email provider’s rules and the affiliate program’s rules before using redirects or link-shortening tools. Do not assume that hiding a destination improves deliverability or makes a restricted offer acceptable.

Start by checking whether your business and planned offers meet the provider’s content rules. Then compare the total cost at your current and expected subscriber counts, the automation workflows you need, email-send limits, reporting and support. Use a trial to check those features before committing. No platform guarantees inbox placement, affiliate sales or continued account approval.

If you also need funnels, courses and affiliate-program management in the same account, our Systeme.io overview covers that broader type of platform. Check its current terms and limits for your use before choosing it.

4. Build and test one welcome sequence

Once the provider and workload fit, follow the four-email welcome-series tutorial. Keep the first version focused: deliver the promised resource, help with a concrete problem, explain a useful decision, then include a relevant recommendation only if your provider and affiliate program permit it.

Before inviting real subscribers, use a test address you control to check the complete journey:

  • The signup page identifies the sender and explains what will arrive.
  • The promised resource and message links work.
  • The sequence timing matches what you promised.
  • Unsubscribing stops the remaining marketing messages, including queued steps.
  • The sender details and required footer information are accurate.

Check the results in the provider’s interface and in the test inbox. These are checks to perform on your own setup; this example does not report a tested campaign or certify a platform.

5. Measure the results separately

Keep completed signups, provider-reported sends, link clicks, unsubscribes and confirmed affiliate commissions in separate columns. A recorded click is a useful signal, but automated security checks can also trigger clicks; it does not prove a reader engaged, purchased or earned you an approved commission. Use the affiliate program’s reports for its own attribution and payment status.

At the end of your planning period, compare the actual contact count and usage with the plan you bought. Note what readers clicked, where they unsubscribed and which recommendations generated confirmed results. Change one part of the next sequence at a time so you can interpret what happened, without assuming the change caused every difference.

Your next step: finish a one-paragraph campaign brief and a send-volume calculation, check the provider’s rules against both, then build the welcome sequence. If a policy question remains unresolved, resolve it before sending.
